Master’s student Hyundong Kim and PhD students Mingon Cho and Inhyuk Lee of POSTECH Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Kyung-Tae Kim) presented “Elevation-Angle Estimation of Low-Altitude Targets in Maritime Environments Using Passive Radar” at the 2024 Summer Conference hosted by the Korean Institute of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science. Their work received the IEEE GRSS Seoul Chapter Chair Award.
The paper proposed a new algorithm combining particle swarm optimization (PSO) with monopulse radar signal processing using three receivers. It was highly regarded for estimating enemy target angles accurately using only received radar signals while reducing sensitivity to reflected and scattered signals in maritime environments.
