Professor Wonbin Hong of POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering has been elected to the Administrative Committee (AdCom) of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (IEEE AP-S), part of the world's largest electrical and electronics professional organization. He is the first person from Korea to serve on the IEEE AP-S AdCom.

Four AdCom members were elected in this year's society-wide vote. Hong was elected to represent the Asia-Pacific region (Region 10). His three-year term begins January 1, 2025.

Hong became Korea's first IEEE Fellow in antennas. His numerous academic accomplishments—including multiple best paper awards at major AP-S conferences, service as editor-in-chief of journals, conference organization, and technical committee activities—are considered important factors in his election.

He received his bachelor's degree from Purdue University and his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Michigan in the United States, and has taught at POSTECH since 2016.

Hong said, “I feel a profound responsibility as Korea's first IEEE AP-S AdCom member. Since radio-wave and antenna technologies form a foundation of electrical and electronics engineering, I will contribute to advancing research in this field through my work with IEEE AP-S.”

IEEE is the world's largest and one of the most prestigious professional organizations in electrical, electronic, computer, and communications engineering, with about 400,000 members in approximately 160 countries. IEEE AP-S is the world's largest professional society in radio-wave engineering, with 12,000 members.
