Sangwook Lee, a PhD student in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering (advisor: Professor Rock-Hyun Baek), received an Outstanding Paper Award and KRW 1 million at the 2024 Fall Conference hosted by the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers. He presented “2 nm Node Nanosheet Field-Effect Transistors with Patterned Dielectric Isolation Walls for Ultrahigh Performance and Integration.”

The paper presented, for the first time, a device structure that introduces patterned dielectric walls between devices to dramatically reduce the length of regions that could not previously be scaled in conventional logic devices. Optimizing the geometry of the dielectric walls improved all three key semiconductor device metrics: power, performance, and area (PPA).

The IEIE Fall Conference covers seven fields: semiconductors, communications, computers, artificial intelligence signal processing, systems and control, industrial electronics, and new emerging areas. Approximately 360 papers and lectures were presented at the 2024 conference.

The Outstanding Paper Award is given to students presenting excellent papers, based on combined paper evaluation and presentation scores.

The award ceremony took place on November 22, 2024, at the 2024 Fall Conference held at High1 Resort.
