Hyun-jong Ok, a master's student in Professor Jae-ho Lee's laboratory in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering, received an Outstanding Paper Award at the Korean Artificial Intelligence Association's 2024 Fall Conference for “AudioBERT: Audio Knowledge Augmented Language Model.” Soo-ho Yoo of Inha University, who joined through the winter research participation program, was a co-recipient.

The paper was highly regarded for building an open-source dataset that first revealed language models' weak understanding of auditory common sense and for proposing a retrieval-based algorithm to address it.

The association's annual fall conference brings AI researchers and industry representatives together to share recent results and trends. Held in November 2024, it featured keynote lectures on foundation models, AI security, and image generation, as well as sessions sharing diverse research achievements.
