[Award] Professor Won-bin Hong's Team Wins Gold at the 2025 Winter Electromagnetics Creative Design Competition

Hyun-jae Shin, a master's student in the Graduate School of Semiconductor Technology, and Ji-hwan Lee, a master's student in Electrical Engineering, both in Professor Won-bin Hong's laboratory at POSTECH, won Gold in the fifth University Student Creative Design Competition at the KIEES 2025 Winter Conference.

Their work, “Thin, Multi-layer Dielectric Spectroscopy via Microwave Ellipsometry with a Metalens,” studied a method for analyzing the electrical properties of multilayer dielectric thin films, expanding metasurface applications.

Precise wavefront control using a metalens overcame conventional ellipsometry's restriction to optical frequencies, enabling noninvasive, nondestructive measurement in the radio-frequency band.

Experiments and theoretical modeling demonstrated effective extraction of complex electrical properties of multilayer dielectric films. The work is expected to open new approaches to metasurface-based radio-frequency measurement.

The team won Gold among 22 entries.
