Dongseop Lee, an integrated master's/doctoral student in POSTECH's Department of Electrical Engineering advised by Professor Wonbin Hong, presented “Traveling Wave Antenna-on-Display featuring Simultaneous 2-D Phase and Frequency Beam Scanning for Integrated Sensing and Communication” at the IEEE European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP) 2025 and received a TICRA Travel Grant. The grant is awarded by the TICRA Foundation, a global leader in satellite research and electromagnetic analysis in electrical technology and science.
TICRA selects only eight recipients worldwide each year for this prestigious research support program. This highly competitive travel grant is open not only to graduate students but also to researchers from all regions and at various career stages. Because it is particularly difficult for graduate students to win, Lee's award is regarded as an important international recognition of his research achievements and impact.
The paper introduces the Traveling Wave Antenna-on-Display (TWAoD) concept for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems for the first time. It proposes an innovative solution using transparent antenna structures integrated into display panels to achieve two-dimensional beam scanning at radar/sensing and communication frequencies.
By addressing space constraints in existing ISAC systems and demonstrating the potential for a single antenna to perform radar sensing and communication simultaneously, the research presents a new paradigm with distinctive performance and innovation compared with studies published by researchers worldwide.
