[News] Dongseop Lee (Integrated MS/PhD Student) Selected for the 2025 POSTECH Alchemist Program for Highly Challenging R&D

Dongseop Lee, an integrated MS/PhD student in POSTECH’s Department of Electrical Engineering (thesis advisor: Professor Wonbin Hong), has been selected in the Disruptive Technology category of the 2025 POSTECH Alchemist Program for highly challenging, exploratory R&D. This university-wide initiative supports innovative research through competition among all departments, including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry, life sciences, and physics.

This year, 60 projects were submitted, and only 15 were selected after rigorous evaluation of innovation, execution capability, and industrial impact. Lee’s project was the only one selected from an Electrical Engineering researcher.

The project, “Integrated 5G/6G Wireless Communication and Radar Sensing (ISAC) System Using Antenna-on-Display,” integrates a traveling-wave antenna-on-display (TWAoD) structure into a transparent display region. By enabling two-dimensional beam scanning in the millimeter-wave band, it demonstrated for the first time that a single ultrathin transparent antenna can simultaneously perform radar sensing and high-speed communications.

The solution fundamentally addresses the space constraints of existing ISAC systems. It offers distinctive performance and innovation compared with previously published research and the potential to create a new paradigm across next-generation 6G applications, including vehicles, mobile devices, and satellites.
