Undergraduate students Geunho Kang and Jihoon Kim and PhD student Jiheon Woo from Professor Yongjune Kim’s research group in POSTECH Electrical Engineering received an Excellence Award in the undergraduate paper competition at the 2025 Summer Conference of the Korean Institute of Communications and Information Sciences (KICS).

The KICS Summer Conference is one of Korea’s largest conferences in electrical and electronic engineering, attracting more than 2,000 participants.

The study proposed a new information-theoretic algorithm that uses the LZ77 universal compression algorithm to measure the randomness of random numbers for cryptography and security. Geunho Kang and Jihoon Kim conducted the research as an undergraduate capstone design project under Professor Kim’s supervision.
